Europe faces domestic violence - Exchange and transfer of local competencies

Project based on a GRUNDVIG Learning Partnership 2010-2012

The idea for this learning partnership was engendered subsequent to the European convention - “Women change EUROPE changes women“ - which took place from 25 – 27 May 2009 in the town hall of Iserlohn within the scope of European town twinning.

The topic “Domestic Violence” was a further joint endeavour that found the interest of many participants from various countries. Despite numerous efforts on a local scale, which in Germany include e.g. so-called round tables, women’s refuges and information centres, taking action against domestic violence is still an arduous undertaking. An exchange of information and ideas on a European level can contribute towards learning from each other and initiating new ideas for local work.

The content of this learning partnership consequently focuses on confronting this topic. The aim is to find out about the institutional, political and civil society-related framework conditions for domestic violence in various European countries and also to provide the opportunity for an exchange of information and ideas on strategies against domestic violence. Based on the experience and presentations of the participating partner countries, this mode of proceeding is sure to encourage mutual learning. A transfer of knowledge on this level could contribute towards supplementing and advancing practical work in the individual countries as well as promoting critical reflection.
