Friendship between peoples, understanding and mutual respect of each other - over the borders. This has been the aims of the twinning partnerships and friendships between towns and communities of different nations for years.

Iserlohn was open for this concept from an early stage. The twinning partnership with the Dutch town of Almelo, has already been in existence since 1954. With time, twinnings and friendships with further European towns came together: Auchel (France), Biel (Switzerland), Chorzów (Poland), Glauchau (Saxony), Hall (Austria), Laventie (France), Nowotscherkask (Russia), Nyíregyháza (Hungary).

Naturally, these partnerships must be activated! Not only the contact at official levels, but meetings and coming together of citizens, youth groups, athletes and cultural activities must follow. The civic partnership committees, specially formed in Iserlohn for this purpose are particularly devoted to this task and carry out their work exemplary.
