The „Callerbachtalsperre“ known as „Seilersee“ was built between 1913 and 1914 to ensure the fresh water supply to the sewage plant of Iserlohn East in arid, dry times.

After the shutting down of the sewage plant, the whole of the Seilersee region won in importance as a local beauty and relaxation spot. It offers a wide variety of sport and leisure activities:

  • attractive meeting place for strolling, hiking and jogging (meeting place for various jogging groups)

  • around the lake there are easy walkways which are suitable for pushchairs, three-wheel bikes and children´s cars, and which offer also the possibility for a stroll for older and handicapped persons, a series of benches invite you to take a rest

  • at the lower lake bird cages have been built, also this region is a popular meeting place for model ship enthusiasts

  • In good weather conditions one can take advantage of rowing boats and the mini-golf area

  • Hikers can walk on well-marked walkways from Seilersee to the Bismarck Tower which was built in 1915 as a national memorial and can hike on further within the region

  • For those keen on sport, the Seilersee region offers an ice-rink, the sport and salt water swimming baths, the open-air swimming pool Schleddenhof, tennis courts, a football pitch, a half-pipe, a boule pitch and riding facilities

  • The parking amenities offer the possibility of parking the car and setting off on a bike tour to North of Iserlohn – route tips – look under „Radwege“ – bike tours

  • Also the connection with nationwide bike routes „Kaiser-Route“ and „Westfälische Höhenroute“ is possible

  • The Hotels and gastronomy around the lake offer culinary delights which suits every pocket and taste
