If you need a certificate from the Registry Office

Birth Certificate:

  • What: Your can get either a
    • a Birth Certificate in German (= "Geburtsurkunde") or
    • a Birth Certificate in several languages including English and French (= "Internationale Geburtsurkunde") or
    • a full copy of the entry of birth (="beglaubigter Ausdruck aus dem Geburtsregister").
  • Where: You can find each entry of birth only in the Registrars' Office of the town you were born. That's why we in Iserlohn have the entries of the births of people who were born in the British Military Hospital in Iserlohn (no matter where the parents lived at that time).

Marriage Certificate:

  • What: Your can get either a
    • a Marriage Certificate in several languages including English and French (= "Internationale Eheurkunde") or
    • a full copy of the entry of marriage (="beglaubigter Ausdruck aus dem Eheregister").
  • Where: You can find each entry of marriage only in the Registrars' Office of the town you were married. That's why we in Iserlohn have the entries of people were married in this local registrars office.

Death Certificate:

    • a Death Certificate in German (= "Sterbeurkunde") or
    • a Death Certificate in several languages including English and French (= "Internationale Sterbeurkunde") or
    • a full copy of the entry of death (="beglaubigter Ausdruck aus dem Sterberegister").
  • Where: You can find each entry of a death only in the Registrars' Office of the town where someone has died. That's why we in Iserlohn have the entries of people who died in Iserlohn, no matter where they lived before they died.

Certificate of a civil partnership:

  • What: For a registered relationship between two people of the same sex you can get a Certificate of a Civil Partnership (Civil Union) in German (=Lebenspartnerschaftsurkunde").
  • Where: You can find each entry of a Civil Partnership only in the Registrars' Office of the town, where the Civil Partnership was registered. That's why we in Iserlohn have the entries of people who signed the Civil Partnership document in this local Registrars' Office (from 2001 onwards).

How to get a certificate:

  • You can go to the appropriate Registry Office and get a certificate. You have to bring your ID-Card or passport an pay the necessary fee.

    Please fill in the form and print it. Then send the completed form with a copy of your Passport or ID-Card and the necessary fee to the local Registry Office. Payment can be made by the following methods:
    The easiest way is to go to your bank and change some cash into euro banknotes. The fee including postage and packing for a single copy is 10 Euro. For additional copies see below.
    Another possibility is to pay the fee by Bankers Draft (Cheque, Check) payable in Euro; the Draft must be drawn on a German bank, or a German branch of a foreign bank. Personal cheques are not accepted.
