Town history 2000....

  • 2000
    • 850 years of Hennen
    • Commencement of town planning optimisation, railway station Iserlohn within the framework of the County Action Program „100 Railway stations in North Rhine Westfalia" (NRW) and also in conjuction with the inner town development project – April 2000.
    • Inauguration of the Iserlohn Floriansdorf on the premises of the full-time fire service
    • BITS - Business Information Technology School moves into the previous British Military Hospital.

  • 2001
    • Renovation work at the Wasserstraße commences within the framework of the inner town development project.
    • The annexe of the Marien Hospital in Letmathe is officially opened on 9 May 2001.
    • European Dressage Championships at the Riding Facilities „Am Seilersee" from 17-22 and 25-29 July 2001.
    • Laying of first stone of the „Project Ecohouse" at the Junior High School in Hennen on 19 September 2001.
    • Re-opening of the Park Theater on 27 October 2001 after extensive renovation.
    • Inner town development project:
      • Start of „Municipal aid program for private measures" for structuring of the inner city in September 2001.
      • Completion of renovation work at the Wasserstraße.
      • Start of the town structural announcement for tenders for the Schillerplatz/Vinckestraße area within the framework of the inner town development project in October 2001.

  • 2002
    • Märkische Fachhochschule renamed Fachhochschule Südwestfalen (FHSWF) as from 01 January 2002.
    • Visit of German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder on 10 January 2002 in Iserlohn.
    • On 18 February 2002 the Iserlohn „Town Watch" ceases duties.
    • Official opening of the basement rooms at the Craftsmen and Post History Museum on 21 June 02.
    • Opening of the Campus Seilersee on 8 June 02. The Business Information Technology School – BITS commences teaching.
    • The previous Mayor, Fritz Fischer is bestowed with the Order of Merit of the County of North Rhine Westfalia on 17 October 02.
    • The Town Council awards both the previous Mayors, Helmut Lindner and Fritz Fischer, the honorary title "Altburgermeister" (Venerable Mayor).
    • New opening of the renovated Markt Passage(Shopping Arcade) on 28 November 02.
    • Inner town development project:
      • Start of reconstruction of „Parking area Knipp"/Konrad-Adenauer-Ring/Mendener Straße)
      • Reconstruction of the Iserlohn market place

  • 2003
    • Inner town development project:
      • Completion of „Carpark Knipp" (Konrad-Adenauer Ring/Mendener Straße) in March 03.
      • Renovation of Unnaer Straße
    • The Iserlohn Brewery is now known as „Private Brewery Iserlohn".

  • 2004
    • 800 years Sümmern / 500 years Griesenbrauck
    • Continuation of Project "Development of Inner City"
    • Reconstruction of the upper Wermingser Street
    • Formation of the Promotion Group Park Theater
    • Formation of the Promotion Group for the Women's Refuge 
    • Town Partnership between Iserlohn and the Polish town of Chorzow is sealed 
    • Official Opening of the Police Station Letmathe

  • 2005
    • Social work team Märkischer Kreis ARGE commences work in the premises of the Agency for Work from 1 January
    • 1. Iserlohn Health Day on 12 March in Park Theater Iserlohn
    • The national unique sponsoring campaign "My Town - that´s why I'll donate" started on 20 May 
    • 1. Campus Symposium of the Business and Information Technology Schools BiTS on 30 May 
    • 1. Extended Night of Culture under the motto "Streifzüge" / "Expedition" on 3 September 
    • Continuation of the project "Development of Inner City": Opening of the newly structured Wermingser Straße on 12 December

  • 2006
    • Opening of a social store on Friedrich-Kirchhoff-Street
    • Continuation of the project "Development of Inner City": Start on the building of the new Town Railway Station Iserlohn on 20 February 
    • Opening of the German Cave Museum on 3 June 
    • The Town of Iserlohn invited on the occassion of the Football World Cup 2006 to "Public Viewing Festival" at the Schillerplatz. Under the motto "Celebrating with friends" a varied programme is presented from 9 Juni to 6 July 
    • Opening of the new Mini-Golf course at the Seilersee 
    • 2. Campus-Symposium of the BiTS on 28/29 September, Main Speaker: the previous US President Bill Clinton 
    • Continuation of the project "Development of Inner City":The completed newly-designed pedestrianized zone is celebrated on 5 November with open all-day Sunday shopping and a street festival
    • A pedestrian bridge between Letmathe and Genna (extension of Luisenstraße) is newly opened on 1 December after renovation

  • 2007
    • The hurricane "Kyrill' destroyed among other, greater parts of the Iserlohn town forest on 18/19 January 
    • 1. event of the series "KunsTRaum" / Artroom Dream in the Casa b on 1 June 
    • 3. Campus Symposium of the BiTS on 27/28 September with the previous UN General Secretary Kofi Annan as main speaker 
    • Opening of the Senior Citizens' Home in the New Hennen Centre on 5 November

  • 2008
    • Continuation of the project "Development of Inner City": The new "Town Railway Station Iserlohn" is opened on 26 January
    • 60 Westfalian Archive Day in the Business and Information Technology School - BiTS on 11/12 March
    • Opening of the Sauerland forest route from Iserlohn to Marsberg at the Alexanderhöhe 
    • Private college BiTS receives the University Seal of institutional accreditation
    • 4. Campus-Symposium of the BiTS: speakers among other the previous German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa 
    • Opening of the Golden Hall of the Schauburg on 8 November with a time journey gala
    • Official hand-over of the newly designed forecourt of the Iserlohn Town Railway Station on 24 November to the citizens
