OBSERVE is an international photography collective focused primarily on the practice of candid street photography. Spanning four continents we are united by a common fascination with watching and documenting the diverse humanity that surrounds us. While acknowledging that photography is at its core an individual pursuit, our membership finds benefit in mutual curation and support, discussion, and other collaborative interactions.
OBSERVE doesn't gaze at its own navel; it finds yours much more interesting. Modern media envelops us in an unending stream of perfect images displaying beautiful people living ideal lives, in comparison to which the value and beauty of the quotidian can easily be forgotten. We use our sensitivity to the everyday world which surrounds us to capture that which might otherwise go unnoticed.
OBSERVE mixes a fine photographic cocktail. A strength of photography is its ability to generate multiple narratives from a singular event, by connecting seemingly unrelated elements or imposing form where none is obvious. Similarly, by sharing side-by-side our own personal bodies of work we hope to create something enduring and greater than the sum of its parts.
OBSERVE doesn't believe there is a need to choose between pudding and cake. Although it was our shared interest in street photography that brought us together, we do not limit ourselves solely to one type of photographic endeavour. Our members are exploring various genres and methods of photographic practice, hoping to invigorate each other and the viewing public through experimentation with our shared art and passion.
Ihre erste gemeinsameAusstellung im Sommer 2015 in der Städtischen Galerie in Iserlohn diente als Startschuss für ein erstes inoffiziellesFestival der Straßenfotografie in der Waldstadt. Jetzt meldet sich die internationale FotografenvereinigungObserve Collective zum diesjährigen Festival mit einer eigenen Ausstellung zurück.
Exklusiv zum Festival haben die 15 Mitglieder des OBSERVE Kollektivs wieder Fotoserien von skurrilen Alltagsszenen aus ihren Heimatorten angefertigt.
Eine limitierte Sonderpublikation Ihres Onlinemagazins "Observations" zu diesem Thema wird während der Dauer des Festivals in der Städtischen Galerie als Printversion erhältlich sein. Einige der Künstler werden persönlich zum Festival anwesend sein.
